CFA Society Indianapolis 2020-2021 Annual Report

MEMBERSHIP REPORT

Sarah Yao Schutzman, CFA

In a year of unprecedented challenges, CFA Society Indianapolis has established creative solutions to continue to engage members and to play our role in leading the finance community.

Locally, we have launched a new CFA Society Indianapolis monthly newsletter and Member Spotlight program. These have been instrumental in supporting our society’s ability to continue to build community in a socially-distanced, virtual environment.

The monthly society newsletter has been very well-received, with high open and click rates. Our Member Spotlight program has served as a key feature, allowing us to showcase the diverse and talented leadership within our community. In 2020-2021, we are thrilled to have featured the following CFA Society Indianapolis leaders and members:

• August: Austin Crites, CFA, Chief Investment Officer of Aurora Financial Strategies

• September: Sarah Yao Schutzman, CFA, Managing Partner of Providence Heights Capital Management, LLC

• October: Neil Banwart, CFA, Corporate Strategy Director at Cummins Inc.

• November: Ashley Merder, Executive Director, CFA Society Indianapolis

• December: Kris Patel, CFA, Investment Advisor Representative, Engage Financial Groups

• January: Jared Luegers, Chief of Staff & CFO, JT Hodgson Family Office

• February: Addison Perry, Accounting and Finance Major at Taylor University

• March: Roger Lee, Senior Research Analysts at Kirr Marbach & Co

• April: Andrew Gast, Senior Research Assistant and Student at Butler University

• June: Helena Ocampo, Senior Portfolio Manager, Goelzer Investment Management

The past year has also seen extraordinary social upheaval and increasing urgency to the diversity dialogue.

As a key leader of the finance industry, we recognized the critical role we play. Last summer, the global Collaborative Women in Investment Management (WIM) Initiative was created by CFA Society leaders in the US to further inclusion and diversity, and to support the advancement and development of female leaders of all backgrounds. In January 2021, this initiative was featured in CFA Institute’s global publication, Connexions. Through our participation in this grassroots campaign, CFA Society Indianapolis works alongside more than 80 supporting organizations across the US, Canada, Caribbean, EMEA, and Latin America to demonstrate the global finance network’s commitment to inclusion and diversity.

Our participation has also provided CFA Society Indianapolis members with access to numerous high-caliber networking and professional development opportunities through events facilitated by the Collaborative WIM society leader community and hosted by CFA Societies around the world. We are proud to share that CFA Society Indianapolis hosted the Collaborative WIM Q1 2021 global event (February 3, 2021). The interactive event with networking featured Michelle Galloway, Of Counsel at Cooley, to discuss “Break Free from Imposter Syndrome: Embrace Your Competent, Capable Self.” Nearly 450 professionals registered to join CFA Society Indianapolis and Collaborative WIM for this cross-regional exchange of ideas and networking.

Thank you to those who have reached out to voice your support of our efforts. CFA Society Indianapolis continues to facilitate and to further the inclusion and diversity dialogue locally, regionally and globally. We commit to play our role in building a better, more inclusive world.
